Elisha J. Bracken Civil War diary, 1862-1863.

This collection consists of a Civil War diary by Elisha J. Bracken, Sgt. Company C., 100th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment (Roundheads). The collection also includes photocopy of the original with a typed transcription, a photocopy of a portrait photograph of Bracken from the US Army Military History Institute, and poem written by Bracken. The diary provides a day-to-day account of service life, with mention of their travels, the weather, and regimental activities from July through October, 1962, with some information included in the transcription from 1863, including a poem about his life as a soldier.

Pennsylvanian Elisha J. Bracken mustered into Company C of the Pennsylvania Volunteers, 100th Regiment on August 31, 1861. He was promoted to sergeant and placed in charge of the remnants of Company C on November 13, 1862. He died in battle in Spotsylvania, Virginia, on May 12, 1864. From the description of Elisha J.
